Speyside Single Malts
The fruity, welcoming heart of Scotch — and home to half its distilleries.
More than half of Scotland’s malt distilleries crowd into Speyside, a small stretch of the north-east around the River Spey. It’s where most people start (usually with Glenfiddich or Glenlivet) and where many stay — the house style runs to orchard fruit, honey and gentle oak, with barely a wisp of smoke anywhere.
These guides cover the famous names honestly — they’re popular for good reasons — and the second wave worth discovering once you know you like the style: Aberlour, Balvenie, BenRiach and the sherried end of the region.
